How Does The Postage Work
Postage & Delivery Information
At Pet Med Direct, we take care to ensure your pet’s items arrive quickly, safely, and in good condition. Below are the details on dispatch times, delivery services, and postage options.
Stock, Dispatch & Supplier Availability
We work closely with our suppliers to fulfil orders promptly while keeping prices competitive. Some items are sourced to order rather than held in large quantities on site.
Most orders are usually ready to leave us within two working days. If you need an item urgently or by a specific date, please email us first and we will check availability and advise expected timelines.
Cold & Temperature-Sensitive Items
Some items (including certain vaccines) must be kept within a controlled temperature range during transit.
Service: Royal Mail Special Delivery
Delivery time: Usually next working day before 2pm
Dispatch days: Monday to Wednesday only
Orders placed after Wednesday are usually dispatched the following Monday to reduce the risk of delays over the weekend.
Packaging: Insulated packaging with cool packs to help maintain temperature during transit.
Cut-off: Orders received before Wednesday 3:30pm are prioritised for dispatch where possible.
Important: Someone must be available at the delivery address to receive and store the parcel immediately on arrival. We cannot accept responsibility for parcels left unattended or delayed after delivery.
Standard Deliveries (Non-Refrigerated Items)
All other items (including accessories and room-temperature products) are sent via Parcelforce 24 or Parcelforce 48, depending on your selection at checkout.

Orders placed before 2:00pm (Monday–Friday) are usually dispatched the same working day. Orders placed after this time, or on weekends/bank holidays, are processed the next working day.
Tracking details are sent by email once your parcel has been dispatched.
Authorised Orders (Vet-Issued Document Required)
Some items can only be dispatched once we have received and checked a vet-issued document.
Orders containing these items will be held until the required document has been received and verified.
If your order includes both standard items and authorised items, everything is usually sent together once approval is complete.
To avoid delays, please send your vet-issued document as soon as you place your order (via your account area or by email).
Delivery Areas
We deliver across the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland.
We do not deliver to addresses outside the UK.
Some remote areas may require an extra working day.
Delivery Delays & Conditions
Delivery times are estimates and may be affected by factors outside our control, including adverse weather, courier disruption, or seasonal demand. If a parcel is delayed, we will help with tracking and next steps where possible.
Postage Costs
Postage is calculated automatically at checkout based on weight, service selected, and destination.
Typical starting rates (subject to change):
Royal Mail Special Delivery (cold items): from £14.50
Parcelforce 24: from £7.95
Parcelforce 48: from £6.90

Tracking
Once dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking number and a link to follow delivery progress.
