What Canaural Ear Drops Are For
Canaural ear drops for dogs and cats are used to treat external ear infections (otitis externa) when your vet has confirmed they are suitable. These infections often involve a mix of bacteria, yeast and inflammation inside the ear canal.
By tackling infection and reducing inflammation, Canaural can help relieve discomfort, reduce head shaking and support a healthier ear environment.
Key Benefits of Canaural Ear Drops
✔ POM-V prescription ear drops for dogs and cats
✔ Treats bacterial and yeast ear infections when your vet advises
✔ Helps reduce redness, swelling and discharge in the ear canal
✔ Oily formula coats the ear canal lining for good contact
✔ Dropper nozzle makes it easier to apply the correct amount
How Canaural Works
Canaural ear drops for dogs and cats contain a combination of active ingredients. These include:
-
Antibiotics to target susceptible bacteria
-
An antifungal agent to target yeast
-
An anti-inflammatory steroid to calm swelling and irritation
Together, these ingredients help control infection and soothe sore tissues in the external ear canal. As the infection improves, many pets shake their heads less and seem more comfortable.
Canaural only treats certain types of infection. Your vet will decide if it is the right choice after examining your pet’s ears, and sometimes after taking swabs or samples.
When Vets Use Canaural
Your vet may prescribe Canaural ear drops for dogs and cats when:
-
There is an external ear infection involving bacteria and yeast
-
The ear drum is intact and it is safe to use ear drops
-
Any underlying causes, such as mites or foreign bodies, have been checked and managed
Ear disease can have many causes. These include allergies, foreign bodies, parasites, hormonal disease and shape of the ear canal. Canaural treats the infection. However, your vet may also need to manage these underlying issues to reduce future flare-ups.
How to Use Canaural Ear Drops
Always follow your vet’s instructions and the label on the bottle. As a general guide:
-
Shake the bottle if directed before use.
-
Gently lift the ear flap and hold it up.
-
Place the nozzle just inside the ear canal opening.
-
Squeeze the bottle to deliver the number of drops prescribed.
-
Massage the base of the ear gently to spread the drops.
Your vet will tell you:
-
How many drops to use in each ear
-
How many times a day to apply them
-
How many days or weeks the course should last
Do not stop the course early unless your vet advises this. If you miss a dose or are not sure whether the full dose went in, contact your vet for advice.
Ear Cleaning and General Care
Canaural ear drops for dogs and cats work best when the ears are cleaned as directed. Your vet may:
-
Clean the ears in the clinic before starting treatment
-
Recommend a specific ear cleaner for use on non-treatment days or before drops
-
Show you how to clean the ear safely at home
Only use ear cleaners and techniques approved by your vet. Do not push cotton buds into the ear canal, as this can cause damage or pack debris deeper.
You can also help by:
-
Keeping ears dry when possible
-
Checking ears regularly for redness, smell or discharge
-
Seeking vet advice early if you see your pet scratching or shaking its head
Safety Information
Canaural ear drops for dogs and cats are a POM-V medicine. They must only be used for the pet named on the prescription and only under veterinary supervision.
Important safety points:
-
Do not use in cats or dogs with a damaged ear drum unless your vet says it is safe
-
Do not put Canaural into eyes, mouth or any area other than the ear canal
-
Tell your vet about any other medicines or supplements your pet is receiving
-
Contact your vet if your pet seems more uncomfortable, tilts the head, loses balance, or if the ear looks worse
Some pets may be sensitive to any ear product. If you notice redness, swelling or signs of irritation after starting treatment, let your vet know promptly.
People applying Canaural should wash their hands after use. Avoid getting the drops on your own skin or in your eyes. Store the bottle as directed on the label and keep it out of sight and reach of children and other animals. Return any unused or expired medicine to your vet or pharmacist for safe disposal.
Used exactly as your vet directs, Canaural ear drops for dogs and cats can play an important part in clearing ear infections and improving comfort for your pet.
