Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets – easy worming for medium and large dogs
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets are designed to make worming bigger dogs as easy as possible. Intestinal worms are a common issue for dogs and can include roundworms and tapeworms picked up from the environment, prey animals or fleas. Left untreated, worm burdens can cause weight loss, a dull coat and digestive upsets, and some types can pose a risk to people in the household.
The XL Drontal Dog Tasty Bone tablet is a larger, tasty, bone-shaped tablet formulated so that medium and large dogs need fewer tablets per dose compared with standard Drontal Dog Tasty Bone. This helps keep dosing simple on worming day, especially if you have one or more big dogs to treat.
What Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets are used for
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets are used to:
-
Treat and control common roundworms and tapeworms in medium and large dogs
-
Support a regular worming routine for bigger pets, as advised by your vet
-
Help reduce the shedding of worm eggs and segments into your home and garden
Your vet can help you decide how often to worm your dog. Many adult dogs are wormed every three months, but dogs that hunt, scavenge or live closely with young children may benefit from more frequent treatments.
Pack sizes to suit your household
This product is available in two convenient pack sizes:
-
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets – pack of 8 tablets
-
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets – pack of 48 tablets
The 8-tablet pack is ideal for one large dog or occasional use, while the 48-tablet pack offers better value and is useful for multi-dog homes or for stocking up for your dog’s yearly worming schedule.
How to give Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets are given by mouth. Because they are flavoured and bone-shaped, many dogs will take them straight from your hand like a treat.
General guidance (always follow the leaflet and any advice from your vet):
-
Weigh your dog so you know their correct bodyweight before dosing
-
Check the dosing table on the packaging to see how many XL tablets your dog needs
-
Give the full dose in one go on the day of worming
-
Tablets can be given on their own or with a small amount of food
-
You do not usually need to withhold food before or after treatment
If your dog spits out a tablet or you are unsure if the full dose has been swallowed, ask your vet or practice team for advice before giving more.
Who Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets are suitable for
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets are designed for medium and large dogs that need a higher wormer dose based on bodyweight. They are not intended for very small dogs or puppies that fall below the minimum weight listed on the product packaging.
Speak to your vet before using this product if your dog:
-
Is very young, elderly or underweight
-
Is pregnant or lactating
-
Has a known medical condition or is on other medication
-
Has had a previous reaction to a wormer
Your vet may recommend a tailored worming plan or a different product in these situations.
Using Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL as part of a parasite control plan
For best protection, worming should be combined with good overall parasite control. As part of a complete plan, consider:
-
Regular flea treatment, as fleas can carry some types of tapeworm
-
Prompt collection and disposal of dog faeces to reduce contamination in your garden, local walks and public areas
-
Good hygiene, especially handwashing after handling dogs, toys or waste, and before eating
-
Routine health checks so your vet can adjust worming and flea treatment as your dog’s lifestyle or risk changes
Possible side effects
Most dogs tolerate Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets very well. As with any medication, mild and short-lived side effects can occasionally occur, such as:
-
Soft stools or temporary diarrhoea
-
Occasional vomiting
-
Brief changes in appetite or behaviour on the day of dosing
If your dog seems unwell after worming, or if any signs are severe or persistent, contact your vet for advice. Very rare allergic reactions are possible with any medicine. Seek urgent veterinary help if you notice sudden swelling of the face, breathing difficulties, collapse or other serious signs.
Handling and safety advice for owners
To keep everyone safe in the home:
-
Store Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets in the original blister and carton, out of sight and reach of children and other animals
-
Only handle tablets when you are ready to dose your dog
-
Wash your hands after giving the tablets or handling your dog’s mouth immediately afterwards
-
If a person accidentally swallows a tablet, they should seek medical advice and show the doctor the product packaging
If you are unsure how often to worm your dog, which pack size to choose, or how to give Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL worming tablets, your vet or practice nurse will be happy to advise and help plan a schedule that suits your dog and your household.
