Equest Pramox oral gel for horses
POM-VPS
Equest Pramox 19.5 mg/g + 121.7 mg/g oral gel is a POM-VPS horse wormer containing moxidectin and praziquantel. It provides broad-spectrum control of the main adult and larval roundworms, including encysted small redworm, plus tapeworm and bots, in horses and ponies when advised by your vet or SQP.
The gel is supplied in an easy-to-use oral syringe with bodyweight graduations on the plunger. Dose and timing must always follow the product leaflet and the worming plan agreed with your vet or SQP, as part of a responsible parasite control programme.

Equest Pramox Oral Gel for Horses
Equest Pramox oral gel for horses and ponies combines two active ingredients in one syringe. It targets a wide range of important worms, including encysted small redworm and tapeworm, which are key parts of most equine worming plans.
By tackling both roundworms and tapeworm in a single treatment, Equest Pramox can help simplify yard worming schedules when it is used at the right time and for the right horses.
Benefits of Equest Pramox Oral Gel
✔ Broad-spectrum control of important adult and larval roundworms
✔ Effective against encysted small redworm stages when used as directed
✔ Treats tapeworm as well as roundworms and bots
✔ Long dosing interval when used within a planned programme
✔ Oral gel in a single syringe with clear weight markings
✔ POM-VPS medicine used only under vet or SQP guidance
How Equest Pramox Works
Equest Pramox 19.5 mg/g + 121.7 mg/g oral gel contains:
-
Moxidectin – a macrocyclic lactone that targets many adult and larval roundworms and bots.
-
Praziquantel – an anthelmintic that specifically targets tapeworm.
Moxidectin acts on the parasite’s nervous system, leading to paralysis and death of susceptible worms. Praziquantel damages the surface of tapeworms so they are removed by the horse’s gut. Together, these actions reduce worm burdens and support gut health and overall condition.
When to Use Equest Pramox
Your vet or SQP may recommend Equest Pramox oral gel for horses and ponies:
• As part of a yearly tapeworm strategy
Used at suitable times when tapeworm treatment is needed, based on risk or testing.
• For winter or strategic encysted small redworm treatment
Selected as the product of choice for encysted stages, at the correct time of year, under professional advice.
• Within a targeted worming plan
Used when faecal egg counts, tapeworm tests or yard risk assessments show that treatment with a moxidectin and praziquantel combination is appropriate.
The exact timing and frequency of Equest Pramox are different from standard wormers. Your vet or SQP will advise when it is suitable and help avoid over-use or poorly timed dosing.
How to Give Equest Pramox Oral Gel
Equest Pramox oral gel is given by mouth using the supplied syringe.
Your vet or SQP will usually recommend that you:
-
Weigh your horse or use a weigh tape to estimate bodyweight.
-
Set the plunger to the correct weight mark for that horse.
-
Place the syringe over the back of the tongue.
-
Lift the head briefly to encourage swallowing.
Always make sure the full dose is given and swallowed. Do not split a pre-set dose between two animals. If you are unsure your horse received the full amount, speak to your vet or SQP before dosing again.
Worming and Pasture Management
A wormer alone is not enough to control parasites on a yard. Equest Pramox works best as part of a complete parasite control plan that may include:
-
Regular faecal egg count testing, where appropriate.
-
Targeted rather than routine blanket worming, to help slow resistance.
-
Poo-picking paddocks and sensible stocking densities.
-
Grazing rotation or resting fields where possible.
-
Quarantine, testing and worming plans for new arrivals.
These steps help protect your horse and reduce the build-up of resistant worms on your pastures.
Safety Information
Equest Pramox oral gel for horses and ponies is a POM-VPS medicine. It can only be supplied by a vet, pharmacist or suitably qualified person, and must be used exactly as they advise.
Important safety points:
-
Use only in horses and ponies; do not use in other animal species.
-
Check and follow all age, weight and health restrictions on the label.
-
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
-
Tell your vet or SQP about any other medicines or supplements your horse receives.
-
Contact your vet promptly if your horse shows unexpected signs after worming, such as colic, diarrhoea, marked dullness or neurological changes.
People handling Equest Pramox should wash their hands after dosing and avoid contact with the gel. Keep syringes out of sight and reach of children and animals. Dispose of used or part-used syringes safely according to the package leaflet, or return them to your vet or pharmacist.
Used at the right time and as part of a structured worming programme, Equest Pramox 19.5 mg/g + 121.7 mg/g oral gel can play a key role in controlling both roundworms and tapeworms and in supporting long-term health and performance in horses
