How Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs works
Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs contains a combination of active ingredients. These act on the nervous system of fleas and certain worms.
The spot-on:
-
Spreads over the skin and coat after application
-
Kills susceptible fleas that bite or come into contact with the animal
-
Targets specific internal parasites when absorbed through the skin
Because different parasites are involved, your vet will explain which parasites are covered for your pet’s species and weight range. They may advise additional treatments if your pet is at risk of other parasites not covered by Prinocate.
When vets may prescribe Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs
Your vet may prescribe Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs when:
-
Your pet has a current flea infestation
-
Ongoing flea control and worm treatment are needed
-
Your pet is at risk from parasites covered by the product due to lifestyle or environment
-
A monthly spot-on is preferred over tablets or other forms
Before prescribing, your vet will weigh your pet and take a short health history. They may also discuss other pets in the household, as all animals in contact usually need appropriate parasite control.
How to apply Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs
Always follow the dosing schedule and application instructions on your prescription and in the product leaflet. General guidance:
-
Weigh your pet so you can select the correct Prinocate spot-on strength
-
Remove one pipette from the pack and hold it upright
-
Twist or snap off the cap as shown in the leaflet
-
Part the fur on the back of the neck, in a place your pet cannot lick
-
Place the pipette tip directly on the skin and squeeze out the full contents in one spot or as advised
-
For larger dogs, your vet may recommend applying in more than one spot along the neck or shoulder line
Do not rub the liquid in. Allow the area to dry naturally. Avoid bathing or allowing your pet to swim for the time stated in the leaflet after application.
Never split a pipette between animals and never use a dog product on a cat or ferret, or vice versa.
Using Prinocate spot-on safely
Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs is a POM-V medicine. It must only be used under veterinary supervision. Important safety points:
-

Parasite control and home management
Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs works best as part of a full parasite control plan. Your vet may also recommend:

Regular vacuuming and washing of pet bedding at high temperatures
-
Treating all in-contact cats and dogs with suitable parasite products
-
Faeces pick-up and disposal to reduce worm eggs in the environment
-
Routine check-ups to review parasite risk throughout the year
Follow your vet’s advice on how often to use Prinocate spot-on for cats and dogs. Regular, correct use helps keep parasite pressures lower and supports your pet’s comfort and wellbeing.
