Solensia Injection for Cats 7mg/ml 2x1ml
PRESCRIPTION NEEDED (Pom-V)
Solensia injection for cats is designed to help manage chronic pain caused by osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is common in older cats and can be easy to miss. Signs may include reluctance to jump, difficulty using the litter tray, stiff movement, reduced grooming or changes in behaviour.
Solensia injection for cats works in a targeted way on the pain pathway. It does not cure osteoarthritis, but it can make everyday movement more comfortable and support a better quality of life.
Each pack contains 2 x 1ml single-use vials of 7 mg/ml solution. Your vet will calculate the correct dose and administer the injection for you.
Benefits of Solensia injection for cats
✔ Monthly injection that provides ongoing osteoarthritis pain relief
✔ Targets nerve growth factor (NGF), a key driver of chronic pain
✔ Can improve mobility, willingness to jump and general activity
✔ May help cats sleep more comfortably and groom more normally
✔ Given by your vet, so there are no injections to give at home
Used as part of a wider management plan, Solensia injection for cats can help make everyday life easier and more enjoyable for older or arthritic cats.
How Solensia injection for cats works
Solensia injection for cats contains frunevetmab, a feline-specific monoclonal antibody. This antibody binds to nerve growth factor (NGF). NGF is involved in the transmission and modulation of pain signals.
By binding NGF, Solensia injection for cats helps:
-
Reduce the sensitivity of pain pathways
-
Lower chronic pain signals from arthritic joints
-
Support more comfortable movement during daily activities
Because it is a monoclonal antibody, Solensia injection for cats is processed by the body more like a natural protein rather than a conventional drug. Your vet will explain how this fits your cat’s overall health status.
When vets may recommend Solensia injection for cats
Your vet may suggest Solensia injection for cats if your cat:
-
Has diagnosed osteoarthritis on examination, and sometimes X-rays
-
Shows signs such as stiffness, reluctance to jump or reduced activity
-
Needs long-term pain management but may not suit some other options
Before starting Solensia injection for cats, your vet will examine your cat and discuss any existing conditions or medicines. They may also recommend blood tests, especially in older cats, to build a full picture of overall health.
How Solensia injection for cats is given
Solensia injection for cats is only given by your vet or a trained veterinary professional. You will not be expected to inject this medicine at home.
General points:
-
Your cat receives Solensia as a subcutaneous injection, usually once a month
-
The dose is based on bodyweight; your vet will weigh your cat regularly
-
Appointments are typically scheduled every four weeks for repeat doses
-
Your vet will assess your cat’s comfort and mobility at each visit
If you miss an appointment or are unable to attend, contact your vet as soon as possible for advice on rescheduling.
Ongoing osteoarthritis management alongside Solensia
Solensia injection for cats usually forms part of a broader osteoarthritis plan. Your vet may also recommend:
-
Weight management – keeping your cat lean to reduce stress on joints
-
Environmental changes – ramps or steps to favourite resting spots, and low-sided litter trays
-
Soft, supportive bedding in warm, quiet areas
-
Gentle activity – allowing your cat to move at their own pace, avoiding forced exercise
You should monitor your cat at home for changes in:
-
Willingness to jump or climb
-
Use of litter trays and scratching posts
-
Grooming habits and coat condition
-
General activity and interaction with the family
Share your observations with your vet, as this helps judge how well Solensia injection for cats is working.
