Pharmasin 1g/g Granules for Use in Drinking Water for Pigs Chickens Turkeys and Calves 1.1kg
POM-V (Prescription Required)
Pharmasin 1g/g Granules for Use in Drinking Water for Pigs, Chickens, Turkeys and Calves is a prescription-only antibiotic medicine (POM-V). It contains tylosin, a macrolide antimicrobial used to treat specific bacterial infections in these food-producing species.
The granules are added to drinking water or, for calves, to milk or milk replacer. This allows group treatment when a number of animals in a pen, shed or house require therapy.
Your vet will decide when Pharmasin is appropriate, based on diagnosis, farm history, sensitivity patterns and responsible use guidelines.
Species and uses
Pharmasin 1g/g Granules is licensed for:
-
Pigs – as directed by your vet for certain tylosin-sensitive infections
-
Chickens – for use in drinking water as part of a targeted treatment plan
-
Turkeys – for specified bacterial conditions where tylosin is indicated
-
Calves – via milk or milk replacer, when group treatment is required
Your vet will explain exactly why Pharmasin has been prescribed on your farm (for example, respiratory disease, enteric disease or other labelled indications), and will set an appropriate course length.
Pack sizes on this page
This product page lists two tub sizes as variations:
-
110g tub – suited to smaller groups or short courses
-
1.1kg tub – useful for larger groups or repeated use under ongoing veterinary direction
Always order the pack size that matches your vet’s instructions and the number of animals to be treated.
How Pharmasin 1g/g Granules works
Pharmasin 1g/g Granules contains tylosin, a macrolide antibiotic. Macrolides act mainly by:
-
Inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis
-
Helping stop growth of susceptible bacteria
-
Allowing the animal’s immune system to clear infection more effectively
Because Pharmasin is an antibiotic, responsible use is essential to help reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance. It should only be used where clearly indicated and under veterinary control.
How Pharmasin 1g/g Granules is given
Always follow the written directions on your veterinary prescription and the product label. General points (not a substitute for your vet’s instructions):
-
The required dose is calculated from:
-
The prescribed mg tylosin per kg bodyweight
-
The average weight of animals in the group
-
The expected daily water or milk intake
-
-
Granules are carefully weighed or measured and dissolved in the drinking water system or milk/milk replacer for calves
-
Fresh medicated water/milk is usually prepared daily, or as your vet and datasheet advise
-
Ensure that treated animals have no access to unmedicated water during the dosing period, unless your vet has specified otherwise
Your vet or a suitably trained person should show you exactly how to calculate and prepare the medicated solution for your particular set-up.
If you are unsure at any point, contact your vet before continuing treatment.
Monitoring during treatment
While animals are receiving Pharmasin 1g/g Granules:
-
Check appetite, demeanour and faeces regularly
-
Observe water or milk intake closely – reduced intake may alter the dose actually received
-
Reassess group weight estimates if animals are growing rapidly
-
Contact your vet if:
-
There is no improvement
-
Signs worsen or new signs appear
-
You are concerned about any animal’s condition
-
Your vet may adjust the plan, extend or shorten the course, or change to another treatment depending on clinical response and lab results.

Withdrawal periods

Your vet will record the correct withdrawal times on the prescription and/or herd health plan. You must:
-
Mark treated groups clearly
-
Record treatment dates, dose and batch numbers
-
Ensure no animal goes for slaughter, and no milk (where applicable) enters the food chain, before the full withdrawal period has elapsed
If you are in any doubt about dates, seek clarification from your vet before animals move or milk is collected.
