ProteqFlu-Te Vaccine for Horses – What It Does
ProteqFlu-Te vaccine for horses helps protect against two serious diseases: equine influenza and tetanus. Flu can spread quickly through yards and competitions, while tetanus is often fatal and lives in soil and the environment.
Regular vaccination with ProteqFlu-Te supports strong immunity. It is a key part of routine preventative healthcare for most horses and ponies.
Benefits of ProteqFlu-Te Vaccine for Horses
✔ Helps protect horses against equine influenza
✔ Helps protect horses against tetanus
✔ 10 x 1 dose vials for accurate dosing
✔ Suitable for primary vaccination and booster courses
✔ Supports competition and livery yard vaccination rules
✔ Fits easily into a long-term preventative health plan
How ProteqFlu-Te Works
ProteqFlu-Te vaccine for horses contains inactivated influenza antigen and tetanus toxoid. These components cannot cause disease. Instead, they safely stimulate the horse’s immune system.
After vaccination, the immune system learns to recognise these antigens. If the horse later encounters the real pathogens or toxins, the immune system can respond faster and more effectively.
Vaccination may not always prevent every mild infection. However, it usually reduces the risk of severe illness and can lessen the impact of disease if exposure occurs.
When Vets Use ProteqFlu-Te
Your vet may use ProteqFlu-Te vaccine for horses to:
• Start a primary vaccination course
Young horses or horses with unknown vaccine history begin a structured programme for flu and tetanus.
• Maintain regular boosters
Previously vaccinated horses receive booster doses at set intervals to keep protection up to date.
• Meet yard and competition requirements
Many livery yards, riding schools and competitions insist on current influenza vaccination and may recommend tetanus cover.
Your vet will check your horse’s passport, age, health status and previous vaccination history. They will then design a suitable schedule and record each dose with date, batch and expiry details.
How the Vaccine Is Given
ProteqFlu-Te vaccine for horses is supplied as 10 x 1 dose vials. Each syringe provides one full dose for one horse.
Important points:
-
A vet or suitably trained professional must give the injection
-
Use a new sterile needle is used for each horse
-
The vaccine is administered using the recommended route and injection site
-
The vaccination is recorded in the passport straight away
Owners should not inject this vaccine unless the vet has specifically agreed and provided clear guidance.
After Vaccination and Monitoring
Most horses tolerate ProteqFlu-Te vaccine well. Some may show mild, short-lived reactions such as slight swelling or warmth at the injection site, or a mild temperature rise.
You should contact your vet if you notice:
-
Marked swelling, heat or pain at the injection site
-
Ongoing dullness, loss of appetite or high temperature
-
Any other signs that worry you after vaccination
Your vet can then advise whether these changes are expected or whether further checks are needed.
