What Equilis Te is used for

Equilis Te is a tetanus toxoid vaccine (with ISCOM Matrix adjuvant) that actively immunises horses from 6 months of age against tetanus, to help prevent this often-fatal disease. It does not contain equine influenza antigen.

How it’s given

Given as a 1ml intramuscular injection by, or under the direction of, a vet. It should not be mixed with any other veterinary medicine.

Vaccination schedule

Primary course: first dose from 6 months of age, second dose 4 weeks later. Immunity develops around 2 weeks after the primary course. First booster is due by 17 months after the primary course, then every 2 years — your vet will record this in your horse’s passport.

Safety information

• Only healthy animals should be vaccinated
• Foals should not be vaccinated before 6 months of age
• Rare reactions include mild swelling or stiffness at the injection site, usually resolving within a couple of days
• Very rarely, fever, lethargy or reduced appetite for 1–3 days, or a hypersensitivity reaction (including anaphylaxis, which can be fatal), may occur — contact your vet promptly if you’re concerned
• Can be used in pregnant or lactating mares
• If a person is accidentally injected, seek medical advice immediately

Storage

Store in a fridge (2–8°C), do not freeze, and protect from light.
