About Emeprid Injection

Emeprid Solution for Injection is a prescription-only veterinary medicine used to control vomiting, nausea and delayed gastric emptying in dogs and cats. The active ingredient, metoclopramide hydrochloride, acts directly on the brain’s vomiting centre and also stimulates normal stomach and intestinal movement. It provides rapid relief when oral medication cannot be used due to persistent vomiting or anaesthesia.

When Vets Prescribe Emeprid

Veterinarians use Emeprid Injection to:

  • Treat vomiting caused by gastritis, toxins or infection.

  • Relieve nausea before and after surgery.

  • Manage digestive stasis due to chronic kidney disease or other conditions.

  • Support recovery in animals with poor gut motility.

Because it acts quickly, Emeprid is ideal for hospitalised pets that need fast symptom control or cannot tolerate tablets.

How Emeprid Works

Emeprid contains metoclopramide, which blocks dopamine D₂ receptors and enhances the release of acetylcholine in the gastrointestinal tract. This dual action prevents vomiting and increases the movement of the stomach and intestines, improving the passage of food and fluids through the digestive system.

Active Ingredient and Strength

Each millilitre contains 5 mg metoclopramide hydrochloride. The injection is a clear, sterile solution designed for subcutaneous, intramuscular or slow intravenous administration.

Dosage and Administration

The usual dose is 0.5 mg per kg bodyweight given every 6–8 hours, depending on veterinary advice. It may be administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly or intravenously.
For dogs and cats with kidney or liver disease, the dose may be reduced. Always follow your veterinarian’s instructions exactly. Treatment duration will depend on the cause of vomiting and your pet’s clinical response.

Precautions and Warnings

Do not use Emeprid in animals with gastrointestinal obstruction, perforation or bleeding. Avoid use in epileptic pets or those with known hypersensitivity to metoclopramide. Use with caution in very young animals, elderly patients or those with kidney impairment.
Possible side effects include restlessness, mild sedation or muscle tremors, which usually disappear when treatment stops. Contact your vet if symptoms persist or worsen.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store below 25 °C and protect from light. Do not freeze. Once opened, use within 28 days. Keep out of reach of children and animals. Dispose of unused solution safely.
