Recicort ear drops for dogs and cats
PRESCRIPTION NEEDED (Pom-V)
Recicort ear drops for dogs and cats are prescribed to treat external ear infections when your vet has confirmed they are suitable. These infections often involve a mix of bacteria, yeast and inflammation in the ear canal.
Affected pets may shake their heads, scratch at their ears, or develop redness, smell and discharge. By treating infection and calming inflammation, Recicort helps make ears more comfortable and supports healthier skin inside the canal.
Benefits of Recicort Ear Drops for Dogs and Cats
✔ POM-V prescription ear drops for dogs and cats
✔ Treat mixed bacterial and yeast ear infections when advised by your vet
✔ Help reduce redness, swelling, itch and discharge
✔ Oily suspension coats the ear lining for good local contact
✔ 20ml bottle with dropper nozzle for easier, targeted application
How Recicort Helps
Recicort ear drops for dogs and cats contain a combination of:
-
Antibacterial ingredients to target susceptible bacteria
-
Antifungal activity to tackle yeast in the ear canal
-
An anti-inflammatory steroid to calm irritation and swelling
These actions work together at the site of infection. As the infection comes under control and inflammation settles, most pets scratch less, shake their heads less and appear more comfortable.
Recicort only treats certain types of ear infection. Your vet will decide if it is the right option after examining your pet’s ears and, if needed, taking swabs or samples.
When Vets May Prescribe Recicort
Your vet may prescribe Recicort ear drops for dogs and cats when:
-
There is otitis externa involving bacteria and/or yeast
-
The ear drum is intact and it is safe to use ear drops
-
Other causes, such as mites, foreign bodies or heavy wax, have been checked and managed
Ear disease often has an underlying cause. Common factors include skin allergy, ear shape, moisture and hormonal problems. Recicort treats the infection and inflammation. Your vet may also plan longer term management of these deeper issues to reduce future flare-ups.
How to Use Recicort Ear Drops
Always follow your vet’s instructions and the label on the bottle. As a simple guide:
-
Gently wipe away loose debris from the outer ear if your vet has advised this.
-
Shake the bottle if the label tells you to.
-
Lift the ear flap and hold it upright so you can see the canal opening.
-
Place the nozzle just inside the opening. Do not push it deep into the ear.
-
Squeeze the bottle to deliver the number of drops your vet has prescribed.
-
Massage the base of the ear gently for a few seconds to help spread the solution.
Your vet will tell you:
-
How many drops to put in each ear
-
How many times a day to apply Recicort
-
How long the course should last
Do not change the dose or stop the course early unless your vet tells you to. If you miss a dose or are unsure whether the full dose went in, contact your vet for advice.
Ear Cleaning and Ongoing Care
Recicort ear drops for dogs and cats work best as part of a full ear-care plan. Your vet may:
-
Clean the ears in the clinic before starting treatment
-
Recommend a specific ear cleaner and show you how to use it safely
-
Advise when to clean and when to apply drops so one does not dilute the other
Use only cleaners approved by your vet. Do not insert cotton buds into the ear canal, as this can cause damage and push material further in.
You can also help by:
-
Keeping ears as dry as possible after bathing or swimming
-
Checking ears regularly for redness, smell or discharge
-
Seeking veterinary advice early if your pet starts scratching or shaking its head again
Safety Information
Recicort ear drops for dogs and cats 20ml is a POM-V medicine. It must only be used for the pet named on the prescription and under veterinary supervision.
Important points:
-
Do not use if your vet suspects a damaged ear drum unless they confirm it is safe.
-
Use only in the ear canal as directed; do not use in eyes, mouth or on large skin areas.
-
Tell your vet about any other medicines or supplements your pet is receiving.
-
Contact your vet if your pet seems more uncomfortable, tilts the head, loses balance, or if the ear looks worse during treatment.
Some animals can be sensitive to any ear product. If you notice marked redness, swelling, pain or unusual behaviour after application, stop using the drops and speak to your vet promptly.
People applying Recicort should wash their hands after use and avoid getting the solution in their own eyes or mouth. Store the bottle as directed on the label and keep it out of sight and reach of children and animals. Return any unused or expired medicine to your vet or pharmacist for safe disposal.
Used exactly as your vet directs, Recicort ear drops for dogs and cats can play an important role in clearing ear infections and helping keep your pet’s ears comfortable and healthy.
