Propalin Syrup (phenylpropanolamine) is licensed to treat urinary incontinence caused by urethral sphincter incompetence in the bitch — efficacy has been demonstrated in spayed (ovariohysterectomised) female dogs. It works by increasing the closure pressure of the urethra.

Safety information
Do not use with non-selective MAOI medicines, or in dogs hypersensitive to the ingredient
Do not use in pregnant or lactating dogs
Use with caution in dogs with cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, kidney or liver impairment, diabetes, hyperadrenocorticism, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism or other metabolic disorders — your vet will weigh this up before prescribing
Possible effects include mild digestive upset (diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy); rarely, signs of over-stimulation such as a fast heart rate, high blood pressure, restlessness or seizure — contact your vet if you notice anything unusual
