What File Types Can I Use for My Prescription Upload?
PDF, JPG and PNG — here's how to pick the right one
Quick Answer
- Accepted file types are PDF, JPG and PNG
- The file size limit is 8MB
- You can upload up to 3 files
- Other formats, like HEIC, will need converting first
The Three Accepted Formats
Great for scanned documents or prescriptions saved directly from your vet's system.
Ideal for a clear photo taken on your phone or camera.
Also works well for photos and screenshots of a digital prescription.
If Your File Is a Different Format
Some phones save photos as HEIC by default. If this happens, you may need to change your camera settings or convert the photo to JPG or PNG before uploading.
If You're Not Sure Which to Use
- A clear photo saved as a JPG is usually the simplest option
- If your vet has emailed you a PDF, that works just as well
- If you are unsure whether your file will be accepted, please contact Pet Med Direct and we can check this for you
How Pet Med Direct Can Help
Whichever of the three accepted formats you use, your prescription is checked the same way once it reaches our team.
Some treatments require a valid veterinary prescription. Pet Med Direct can only supply prescription medicines after the prescription has been checked. Always follow your vet's advice and the directions on the medicine label.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I upload a Word document or a screenshot taken on a laptop?
Only PDF, JPG and PNG files are accepted. A Word document would need to be saved or printed and rescanned as one of these formats.
Does it matter which format I use?
Not really, as long as the file is clear and under 8MB. Choose whichever is easiest to produce from your phone, scanner or vet's documents.
Can I combine multiple photos into one PDF?
Yes, if your prescription covers more than one page, combining them into a single PDF can be a tidy option, or you can upload up to 3 separate files instead.
What if my file type isn't accepted by the form?
If you are unsure how to convert your file to PDF, JPG or PNG, please contact Pet Med Direct and we can help.
