What Thyforon is used for

Thyforon (levothyroxine sodium) is licensed to treat hypothyroidism in dogs, replacing the thyroid hormone the body isn’t producing enough of.

Available strengths — important unit note

Thyforon tablets are dosed in micrograms (mcg), not milligrams. The three authorised strengths are 200 microgram, 400 microgram and 800 microgram flavoured tablets. If the pack selector above shows “mg,” please read this as microgram — always check the exact strength on your prescription and the dispensed pack label before giving a dose.

How it’s given

Given orally, once or twice daily as your vet directs, ideally at a consistent time relative to feeding. Do not change the dose without veterinary advice — hypothyroidism treatment is usually lifelong, with periodic blood tests to check the dose remains correct.

Safety information
  • Not for use in dogs hypersensitive to levothyroxine
  • Use with caution in dogs with heart disease — tell your vet about any existing conditions
  • Possible effects of an incorrect dose include restlessness, increased thirst/urination, weight loss or a fast heart rate (overdose-type signs), or lethargy and weight gain (underdose-type signs) — contact your vet if you notice these, as the dose may need adjusting

Full prescribing information is in the product datasheet. Manufactured by Dechra.
