Prescription Required (POM-V)
Selgian tablets for dogs are POM-V film-coated tablets containing (–)-selegiline hydrochloride. Vets prescribe Selgian for behavioural disorders of purely emotional origin (such as depression and anxiety), and – in association with behaviour therapy – for emotional signs seen in conditions such as overactivity, separation problems, generalised phobia and unsociable behaviour.
This product page covers all three strengths, each available as single tablets or in 1 x 30 packs (subject to stock): 4mg, 10mg and 20mg. Always order the strength and quantity shown on your dog’s prescription.

Selgian Film-Coated Tablets for Dogs
Prescription Required (POM-V)
What Selgian Tablets for Dogs Are For
Selgian tablets contain (–)-selegiline hydrochloride and are licensed for:
- Treatment of behavioural disorders of purely emotional origin: depression, anxiety
- In association with behaviour therapy, treatment of signs of emotional origin observed in behavioural conditions such as overactivity, separation problems, generalised phobia and unsociable behaviour
Selgian is intended to be used alongside behaviour therapy where appropriate, not as a standalone calming treatment – your vet will advise on the right approach for your dog.
Available Strengths on This Product Page
On this single product page you can choose the exact strength your vet has prescribed:
- Selgian 4mg film-coated tablets – single tablet or 1 x 30
- Selgian 10mg film-coated tablets – single tablet or 1 x 30
- Selgian 20mg film-coated tablets – single tablet or 1 x 30
The recommended dose is 0.5mg/kg/day of (–)-selegiline hydrochloride, given as a single daily dose. Your vet will confirm the correct strength and tablet quantity for your dog’s weight. Always match your order to the strength and quantity on your dog’s prescription.
How Selgian Is Given
Give the number of tablets prescribed by your vet, once daily. It’s advisable to weigh your dog before dosing to make sure the correct dose is given. If no clinical improvement is seen after 2 months of treatment, continuing is unlikely to provide further benefit – your vet will review this with you. Treatment can be stopped suddenly, without needing to reduce the dose gradually first. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without talking to your vet.
Safety Information
Selgian must not be given:
- To pregnant or lactating bitches (treatment should be stopped during pregnancy and lactation)
- From the day before until the day after anaesthesia or tranquillisation performed with an alpha-2 agonist
- Together with pethidine, fluoxetine or phenothiazines
Selgian potentiates the narcotic action of morphine – tell your vet about all other medicines your dog is taking. In dominant dogs, alleviating an emotional disorder can occasionally reveal latent aggression; if this happens, behavioural therapy should be started. Very rarely, dogs have shown behavioural changes, including increased aggression, during treatment – appropriate training is important in these cases.
Handling Advice
Keep tablets out of sight and reach of children and other animals, and wash your hands after handling. If a tablet is accidentally swallowed by a person, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or label to the doctor. Do not store above 25°C; use or discard any part-tablets within 4 days, kept in the blister pack.
