Vitofyllin tablets for dogs

What Vitofyllin is used for

Vitofyllin (propentofylline) is licensed to improve peripheral and cerebral vascular blood circulation, and to improve dullness, lethargy and overall demeanour in dogs.

Available strengths

50mg and 100mg film-coated tablets, boxes of 56, divisible into 2 or 4 equal parts. Dogs over around 20kg typically use the 100mg strength. Your vet’s prescription sets the exact dose for your dog.

How it’s given

Typical dosing is 6–10mg propentofylline per kg bodyweight per day, split into two doses, given directly or with a small amount of food. Do not adjust the dose without veterinary advice.

Safety information

• Not for use in dogs weighing less than 2.5kg, or in dogs hypersensitive to propentofylline
• Not for use in pregnant or lactating bitches, or in breeding animals
• Extra caution is needed in dogs with kidney disease, congestive heart failure or bronchial disease — tell your vet about all other conditions and medicines
• Possible effects (rare) include allergic skin reactions, vomiting or cardiac disorder — stop treatment and contact your vet if you notice these

Handling advice for owners

Avoid accidental ingestion and wash your hands after giving a dose. Keep out of reach of children.
