Noroclav tablets are prescription antibiotics containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, used to treat infections caused by bacteria that respond to this combination.

Which strength is licensed for which species

Noroclav is sold under one product listing, but the three strengths are separately licensed medicines and are not interchangeable between species:

• Noroclav 50mg Tablets – licensed for dogs and cats
• Noroclav 250mg Tablets – licensed for dogs only
• Noroclav 500mg Tablets – licensed for dogs only

Always order the strength shown on your prescription – your vet has already matched it to your pet’s species and weight.

What Noroclav tablets are used for

Vets prescribe Noroclav for infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

• Skin infections (including superficial and deep pyoderma)
• Urinary tract infections
• Respiratory tract infections
• Enteritis caused by susceptible E. coli

Your vet will only prescribe Noroclav where sensitivity testing supports its use, or where clinical judgement indicates it is the appropriate first-line choice.

How Noroclav tablets work

Noroclav tablets contain two active ingredients:

• Amoxicillin – a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills susceptible bacteria
• Clavulanic acid – protects amoxicillin from bacterial enzymes that would otherwise break it down

Because Noroclav acts only on certain bacteria, it will not treat viral, fungal or parasitic disease. Your vet prescribes it only when it is appropriate for the infection present.

How to give Noroclav tablets

Always follow your vet’s instructions and the label on your prescription. General guidance:

• Give the exact number and strength prescribed, usually twice daily
• Tablets may be crushed and added to a little food if needed
• Try to give doses at the same times each day

If you miss a dose, ask your vet what to do – do not double the next dose unless clearly instructed to.

Antibiotic stewardship – please read

Noroclav should be given exactly as prescribed, for the full length of the course, even if your pet seems better after a few days. Please do not stop treatment early or change the dose without speaking to your vet first.

• Use antimicrobials only when your vet has assessed the animal and prescribed them
• Do not use leftover Noroclav to treat a different illness or a different animal without veterinary advice
• Never save unused antibiotics “just in case” – return any spare tablets to your vet or pharmacist for safe disposal

Responsible antibiotic use helps protect the effectiveness of these medicines for all pets in the future.

Safety information

• Noroclav is POM-V and is dispensed for the named animal only
• Do not use in pets known to be hypersensitive to penicillins or cephalosporins
• Tell your vet about all other medicines or supplements your pet is receiving
• Inform your vet if your pet has kidney or liver disease

People with a known penicillin allergy should avoid handling the tablets. Wash hands after giving Noroclav.

Store Noroclav in the original packaging, in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children and other animals.
