Previcox tablets for dogs

What Previcox is used for

Previcox (firocoxib) is a COX-2 selective NSAID licensed for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, and for post-operative pain and inflammation following soft-tissue, orthopaedic and dental surgery, in dogs.

Available strengths

57mg and 227mg chewable tablets, divisible into 2 or 4 equal parts for accurate dosing to your dog’s bodyweight.

How it’s given

Given orally, once daily, with or without food, at a target dose of 5mg/kg. For post-operative pain, treatment is usually given for up to 3 days starting shortly before surgery, though your vet may extend this if needed. Always follow your vet’s prescribed dose.

Safety information

• Not for use in pregnant or lactating bitches
• Not for use in dogs under 10 weeks of age or under 3kg bodyweight
• Not for use in dogs with gastrointestinal bleeding, blood clotting disorders, or hypersensitivity to firocoxib
• Do not combine with corticosteroids or other NSAIDs
• Extra caution and monitoring is needed in very young dogs or those with existing kidney, liver or heart disease — your vet may recommend blood tests before and during longer courses
• Possible effects (uncommon) include vomiting and diarrhoea, usually transient; rarely, nervous system, liver or kidney effects can occur — contact your vet if you notice anything unusual
