What Caninsulin is used for

Caninsulin 40 IU/ml is licensed for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (insulin deficiency) in dogs and cats, individually dosed and adjusted by your vet.

Pack sizes

2.5ml vials, 2.7ml VetPen cartridges, and 10ml vials.

How it’s given

Given by subcutaneous injection only — never intravenously. Mix gently to a uniform, milky suspension before every dose. Dogs are usually dosed once daily (sometimes twice); cats are usually dosed twice daily. Always use a U-40 insulin syringe or VetPen — never a U-100 syringe. Give the exact dose your vet has prescribed and keep to a consistent feeding schedule around each dose.

Recognising low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)

Watch for hunger, increasing anxiety, unsteady walking, muscle twitching, weakness or sinking in the back legs, and disorientation. If you see these signs, offer food or a glucose source straight away and contact your vet.

Safety information
  • Not for use in animals with diabetic ketoacidosis or an acute diabetic crisis
  • Not for use in animals already experiencing hypoglycaemia, or hypersensitive to the product
  • Tell your vet about other medicines your pet takes — corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, progestogens and some sedatives can affect insulin requirements
  • If a person is accidentally injected, seek medical advice immediately and take the packaging with you
Storage

Store upright in a fridge (2–8°C) before opening; do not freeze; protect from light. Once opened, store below 25°C and use within 42 days.
