Otoxolan ear drops for dogs
PRESCRIPTION NEEDED (Pom-V)
Otoxolan ear drops for dogs are used to treat external ear infections when your vet has confirmed they are suitable. Otitis externa often involves a mix of bacteria, yeast and inflammation in the outer ear canal.
Dogs with ear infections may shake their heads, scratch their ears, or develop redness, smell and discharge. By tackling infection and soothing the inflamed ear canal, Otoxolan helps make ears more comfortable and supports healing.
Benefits of Otoxolan Ear Drops for Dogs
✔ POM-V prescription ear drops for dogs only
✔ Treat mixed bacterial and yeast ear infections when advised by your vet
✔ Help reduce redness, swelling, itch and unpleasant odour
✔ Oily suspension coats the ear lining for close contact with the medicine
✔ 10ml bottle with applicator nozzle for targeted dosing
How Otoxolan Works
Otoxolan ear drops for dogs contain:
-
An antibiotic to target susceptible bacteria in the ear canal
-
An antifungal to tackle yeast overgrowth
-
A steroid to reduce inflammation, swelling and irritation
These components act together at the site of infection. As the infection comes under control and inflammation settles, most dogs scratch less, shake their heads less and appear more comfortable.
Otoxolan does not suit every type of ear disease. Your vet will decide if it is appropriate after examining your dog’s ears and, if needed, taking swabs or samples.
When Vets May Prescribe Otoxolan
Your vet may prescribe Otoxolan ear drops for dogs when:
-
There is otitis externa involving bacteria and/or yeast
-
The ear drum is intact and it is safe to use ear drops
-
Other problems, such as mites, foreign bodies or heavy wax, have been checked and managed
Ear disease often has underlying causes. These can include skin allergies, ear shape, moisture, excess hair or hormonal conditions. Otoxolan treats the infection and inflammation. Your vet may also plan longer term management of these deeper issues to help prevent future flare-ups.
How to Use Otoxolan Ear Drops
Always follow your vet’s instructions and the product label. As a simple guide:
-
If advised, gently clean the outer ear with a vet-approved ear cleaner.
-
Shake the bottle if the label tells you to.
-
Lift the ear flap and hold it so you can see the canal opening.
-
Place the nozzle just inside the opening. Do not push it deep into the ear.
-
Squeeze the bottle to deliver the exact number of drops or measured dose your vet has prescribed.
-
Massage the base of the ear gently for a few seconds to help spread the suspension.
Your vet will tell you:
-
How much Otoxolan to use in each ear
-
How many times a day to apply the drops
-
How many days the course should last
Do not change the dose or stop the course early unless your vet advises this. If you miss a dose or are unsure whether the full dose went in, contact your vet for guidance.
Ear Cleaning and Ongoing Ear Care
Otoxolan ear drops for dogs work best as part of a full ear-care plan. Your vet may:
-
Clean the ears in the clinic before treatment begins
-
Recommend a specific ear cleaner and show you how to use it safely
-
Advise when to clean and when to apply drops so one does not dilute the other
Only use ear cleaners your vet has approved. Do not insert cotton buds down into the ear canal, as this can cause damage and push debris deeper.
You can also help by:
-
Keeping ears as dry as possible after bathing or swimming
-
Checking ears regularly for redness, smell or discharge
-
Seeking veterinary advice early if your dog starts scratching or shaking its head again
Safety Information
Otoxolan Ear Drops Suspension for Dogs 10ml is a POM-V medicine. It must only be used for the dog named on the prescription and under veterinary supervision.
Important points:
-
Do not use if your vet suspects a damaged ear drum unless they confirm it is safe
-
Use only in the ear canal as directed; do not use in eyes, mouth or on large skin areas
-
Tell your vet about any other medicines or supplements your dog is receiving
-
Contact your vet if your dog seems more uncomfortable, tilts the head, loses balance, or if the ear looks worse during treatment
Some dogs can be sensitive to ear products. If you notice marked redness, swelling, pain or unusual behaviour after application, stop using the drops and speak to your vet promptly.
People applying Otoxolan should wash their hands after use and avoid getting the suspension in their own eyes or mouth. Store the bottle as directed on the label and keep it out of sight and reach of children and animals. Return any unused or expired medicine to your vet or pharmacist for safe disposal.
Used exactly as your vet directs, Otoxolan ear drops for dogs can play an important role in clearing ear infections and helping keep your dog’s ears comfortable and healthy.
