Nutraotic ear essential oil is a topical 60ml oil blend from Nutravet, formulated for dogs. It sits alongside the Nutraotic cleaner and wipes as the richer, more conditioning option in the range. The oil helps break down stubborn ear wax, cleanses and moisturises the ear canal, reduces ear odours and supports a balanced flora in the ear. Unlike the rest of the Nutraotic range, this one is for dogs only.
What Nutraotic ear essential oil does
Some dogs, particularly heavy-eared and hairy-eared breeds, build up wax faster than a water-based cleaner can shift comfortably. An oil blend works differently: it softens and loosens that wax while conditioning the skin lining the canal.
- Helps break down and loosen built-up ear wax
- Cleanses and moisturises the ear canal
- Helps reduce ear odours
- Supports balanced flora in the ear
- Provides anti-bacterial and anti-fungal support
- Free from harsh ingredients, so it stays gentle and non-irritating
The oil blend
Nutravet builds the formula on a grape seed oil base carrying a blend of botanical essential oils:
- Grape seed oil – the light carrier oil that conditions and moisturises.
- Cinnamon
- Oregano
- Clove
- Thyme
- Lemongrass
Together these give the blend its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and soothing character.

How to use it
- Follow the number of drops and frequency stated on the bottle, or your vet’s instructions.
- Apply into the ear, then massage the base of the ear so the oil spreads through the canal.
- Let your dog shake, then wipe the loosened wax and debris from the outer ear.
- Use a fresh pad or Nutraotic wipe for the second ear.
- Do not push cotton buds down into the canal.
Do not exceed the stated amount. If you are unsure how much to use, ask your vet before you start.
Who it is for
Dogs only. Do not use it on cats. If you need an ear product for a cat, use the Nutraotic ear cleaning solution or the ear cleaning wipes instead, both of which are made for cats as well as dogs.
This is a topical care product, not a medicine, and it does not treat an ear infection. Speak to your vet before use if the ear is already sore, and book an appointment if you see discharge, marked redness, swelling, heat, a strong smell, repeated head shaking or any sign of pain. Do not use it where the eardrum may be perforated unless your vet has advised it.
Dogs that tend to need it
Heavy wax is not spread evenly across the dog population. The oil is most often used for:
- Spaniels, retrievers and hounds with long, heavy ear flaps.
- Poodles and poodle crosses with hair growing in the canal.
- Dogs with a long history of waxy, smelly ears.
- Dogs that swim regularly, or that are bathed often.
- Working dogs exposed to dust, seeds and undergrowth.
Making application easier
Preparation makes the difference. Work somewhere easy to wipe down, with a towel over your knee and the bottle already open. Warm the bottle briefly in your hands first. Apply, massage the base of the ear for a good few seconds, then step back and let your dog shake before you wipe. Keep sessions short and end on a treat, so the next one is easier for both of you.

Nutraotic ear essential oil FAQs
Can I use it on my cat? No. This product is for dogs. Choose the Nutraotic cleaner or wipes for cats.
How is it different from the ear cleaner? The 225ml cleaner is a water-based routine cleaning solution. The oil is richer and aimed at conditioning and breaking down heavier wax.
Can I use both? Yes, many owners do. Follow the label for each and leave time between applications.
Will it cure an ear infection? No. Infections need veterinary diagnosis and treatment.
Is it greasy on the coat? Wipe the outer ear after your dog shakes and you will keep any residue to a minimum.
How soon can I clean the ear afterwards? Follow the label, and leave enough time between the oil and any cleaner for each to do its job. Ask your vet if you plan to combine products regularly.
My dog has hair in the canal. Should I pluck it? Ask your vet or groomer first. Plucking is not right for every dog and can leave the ear sore.
