What Benazecare is used for

Benazecare (benazepril) is an ACE inhibitor with different licensed uses depending on species. In dogs, it is used to treat congestive heart failure. In cats, it is used to reduce proteinuria (protein loss in urine) associated with chronic kidney disease. These indications are species-specific — it is not licensed for feline heart disease or canine kidney-related proteinuria.

Available strengths

5mg and 20mg tablets, packs of 28, dosed by your vet according to your pet’s weight and condition.

How it’s given

Given orally, once daily, with or without food, exactly as your vet directs. Do not change the dose without veterinary advice.

Safety information
  • Not for use in pregnant or lactating animals
  • Not for use in animals hypersensitive to benazepril or other ACE inhibitors
  • Use with caution alongside other medicines that affect blood pressure or kidney function — tell your vet about all other medicines your pet is taking
  • Possible effects include reduced appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea or lethargy — contact your vet if you notice anything unusual
  • Periodic monitoring of kidney function is recommended during treatment
